Science & Christianity

It is often thought that a belief in biblical Christianity is incompatible with the study and understanding of science. In this "enlightened" age, science (physics, biology, etc.) are believed to explain or be capable of eventually explaining everything we observe, both in the physical realm and in the realm of human behavior and emotion.

This is an ironic situation, since the success of western civilization in investigating the created world was originally rooted in a belief in a personal God who created an orderly world, and imbued mankind with the intellectual faculties to understand that world.

Our success in this endeavor has led us away from God, and to a BELIEF that everything is explainable by natural causes. This belief is expressed within the scientific community by the requirement that only natural causes may be sought in explaining any observed phenomenon. The possibility that the universe was designed (instead of being a consequence of the 4 forces of nature plus time plus chance) is not even allowed to be considered.

Fortunately, as you can discover from the links below, not all scientists (myself and many others at Jefferson Lab included) have accepted this restriction on the pursuit of truth.
