Farvel Quincy Jones was a glass harmonica soloist in the Temple orchestra ca. 1910. He fell in love with Winifred Hallocks, one of the Temple Dancers at the time, and to show his love for her composed the "Ode to Winifred," a melody still heard in Arkham every Valentine's Day. When she expressed a preference for ragtime music, he fell into a rage and tore her to pieces on the Public Library steps. He later married a nice, quiet Dagonite girl, with whom he had five children, all girls, and all named Winifred. |
