The CMMI products can be viewed in either a continuous or staged fashion. The continuous view will provide indications of improvements in a single process area (i.e. a more detailed view). The staged view gives a single number indicating only overall improvement in organizational maturity (i.e. a rollup view). Both representations contain essentially the same information.
This paper will use a continuous view because staged can be easily derived from the continuous view. Next, let’s examine specific issues found with the minimum XP definition.
