The first series of figures were produced in the late sixties and consisted of alien life forms from seven of the nine planets in our solar system. These figures were a perfect match for Major Matt Mason - Mattel's Man in Space, and almost seemed designed as a companion product to expand the known universe as it was.
The figures were designed well with sturdy wires embedded in the Colorforms plastic. These provided realistic positioning of the figure along with added strength to guard against breakage. The plastic the figures were molded in was additionally of good quality which remained pliable; without becoming brittle over time.
With their bright colors and exotic weapons, these figures gained popularity quickly and plans for a second series were initiated. The prototypes included on the second series pages show as much imagination and attention to detail as their first series companions.
