The Comets White and Comets Purple had outstanding spring
seasons with both teams posting winning records, both showing skill
and tactical improvement from the fall, and both having fun -- consider this:
The
Comets White were undefeated division champions and winners of both
tournaments they entered! Their overall record was 15 wins, 1 loss,
and 3 ties -- with 54 goals scored and 19 surrendered. The team played
high quality possession soccer consistently through the season. The
White's only loss was in the State Cup to one of the finalist teams. Great job
girls!!
The
Comets Purple contended for their division crown and were undefeated
in the Icebreaker Tournament. Their overall record was 8 wins, 4
losses, and 1 tie -- with 24 goals scored and 20 surrendered. The
Purple's attack and combination play improved tremendously from last season. The
two games versus our WAGS division champs put most of the damage on the
ledger. Excepting those matches, the Comets Purple were 8-2-1 with 23 goals
scored and 9 surrendered. Outstanding!!
Thank you very much to the coaches, managers, our sponsors, and the many
volunteers who make our program so successful. Your efforts are very
much
appreciated! Have a great summer everyone!

A Win and Two Washouts:
The White Team salvaged a soggy weekend with a 4-1 victory on Sunday.
After a scoreless first half, Todd and the players made the right
adjustments. Lacy drilled in two strikes from the midfield, as did
Emma on her goal. Laila accounted for the other score. With
their sixth consecutive division win, White is well-positioned to advance if
they finish strong. Both the White and Purple teams were washed out on
Saturday. White will make up their game Wednesday evening at 6:00;
Purple will play Saturday at 1:00.
White Tourney Streak
Reaches Four: The
Comets White claimed their fourth straight tournament crown, taking the
Columbia Invitational with three wins and a tie. The final was
hard-fought affair -- a 1-0 victory that was earned by strong defensive play
in the back and in the midfield. Natalie D knocked home the game
winner off a cross from Kelsey. The White outscored their opponents
12-5 over the tournament.
Mixed Bag:
The Comets Purple fared pretty well at the Columbia Invitational with
the exception of an opponent that seems to have our number this season.
After an evenly-matched first half, the LUYAA Fusion broke loose with a
number quality finishes to end our shot at playing on Monday. The
Purple won 5-1 and fell short 0-1 in the other contests. Natalie &
Brooke led the tourney scoring with two apiece; Jen & Rachel tallied the
others; and Brianna was exceptional on defense. Except for the two
matches vs. our Fusion friends, Purple is 7-1-1 on the season overall.
And the Beat Goes On:
A six-goal explosion captured a 5th straight WAGS win for the Comets White -
what a wonderful way to wind up a Wednesday! Alright, enough
alliteration already. . . Kelsey and Miranda led the scoring with two goals
each, Emily and Laila got the others, and Bri flashed her brilliance in the
midfield in yet another superb team effort.
Super Sunday:
The Comets White and Purple both came out on top Sunday, continuing their
successful seasons. The White team beat the division front-runner 2-1
on two goals from Kelsey and their trademark possession play that built many
quality opportunities. The White remains unbeaten in WAGS play.
The Purple rebounded from
a frustrating last-minute tie on Saturday to play one of their best
all-around games of the season on Sunday. Rachel recorded a hat trick
and Jen scored the other goal in a 4-0 victory. Morgan shined in the
midfield and the defenders were exceptional. Much like the White
team's effort, compliments for Purple can rightly be spread across the
entire team.
