CommTech Reader Store Display

In 1999, Hasbro released a variety of Star Wars figures which included CommTech chips with speech phrases & sound effects from the movie.  To promote this new technology.  Special store displays were configured to allow the consumer to hear the chips.  Each store display was fitted with a standard CommTech reader, a built-in amplifier & speaker.  They also had flashing lights.  Simply hit the yellow button & slide the carded figure over the reader.

These displays shipped with red graphics.  After a few months, stores received kits to apply green graphics.

In 1999, Target stores featured an interactive video display that featured toy commercials & a movie trailer from Episode I.  Shoppers could simply select a button on the front of the display panel, which would control a Video-CD player located within the housing.  The video was then sent to a television.  These displays were located at an end-cap in the toy aisle.
