Reflections from the Minister's Mind
Rev. John Poleski
Welcome home to the San Diego Center for Spiritual Living! Thank you for reading this issue of our HIGHER VIEWS Newsletter.
Our themes for July and August are Liberty and Vision respectively. These two concepts, when practiced with conscious awareness, allow you and me to move forward in This Thing Called Life with confidence and assurance.
Our Science of Mind philosophy teaches us "how to think" rather that "what to think." We are at Liberty to practice the principles in our own individual lives free from dogma and limitations. We have a choice in how we chart the course of our lives.
However, we must have a clear method of discernment along with a spiritual sense of direction. "Where there is Vision, the people flourish" is one of my favorite turns of phrase. Together we can claim our freedom to think a new thought and open our spiritual eyes to greater possibilities both individually and collectively.
Join us on Sundays and be a part of our growing community. Let us know how we can serve you.
Namaste,
Rev. John Poleski
Senior Minister |

Celebrating Liberty
We celebrate Independence Day on July 4th by remembering the Forefathers of our nation and the struggle of those in a new land to create a space for independence of thought, faith, and self-governance. These visionaries set down in words magnificently powerful and expressive our mission and purpose as a people in land of freedom with both rights and responsibilities for ourselves and to others.

Celebrating Practitioner Graduation
Kathy Thompson
Practitioner Graduate
Uplifted, powerful, with heart and soul soaring high above the clouds of love--These wonderful words and feelings flowed through me as I felt God's Spirit moving through each of us attending the Practitioner and Minister graduation held at the Holmes Institute San Diego Campus in Encinitas, on Sunday, June 3, 2007. Family, friends, students, and church staff from locations around this world filled the Seaside Center for Spiritual Living with eagerness, enthusiasm, and global heart visions.
My sacred journey started years ago, as I integrated happenings of joy with sad and tragic events. My journey has led me to this point in time, becoming licensed as a Professional Practitioner. I know that God guides, supports, and encourages me along my life journey. I am open to God's will. My responsibility, my commitment, is to contribute in whatever manner is appropriate, and then allow God to do the rest. I know that change happens constantly, and I envision peacefulness and right action during this life journey here on earth. I know that I am one with God, the Source of energy, pure life, and love. Living the teachings of Science of Mind allows me to be refreshed, and I can experience each day from a renewed perspective. My understanding grows each day of my own role as a professional prayer coach. Even when presented with difficulties and doubts and fears, I am open to opportunities to learn, grow, expand my heart, and I ultimately relax, knowing that Divine Order is unfolding.
My learning journey began more than seven years ago when I started taking classes to learn about the teachings we call Science of Mind. I took first, second, and third level classes through another branch of Religious Science. I was about to get my Professional Practitioner license when the minister unexpectedly left town and I was left in paperwork limbo. I knew from this Science of Mind teaching that I could release my needs to react negatively to this unplanned situation, so I prayed for understanding and openness to the right answers.
Fortunately, I had met Rev. John Poleski several years earlier, loved his energy and ideas, and told him I'd always join his church when he became the staff Minister. That wish became true two years ago, April 2005, when John joined the San Diego Church of Religious Science, now called San Diego Center for Spiritual Living. I immediately became a grateful member of this loving spiritual community, which is my extended family. Our Branch of Religious Science, the United Centers, accepted some of my previous training. I had to retake some classes to become a professional practitioner in this San Diego Church, aka Downtown Church. Another fortuitious miracle, I have enjoyed and benefited from the loving teaching of Constance Cook Core. She eagerly shares her ministry of teaching with wisdom, patience, understanding and grace.
The commitment and support from Rev. John and Connie allow me to reach new heights of awareness and love each day, now as a graduating practitioner. This loving Church shows respect and caring for each member, honoring our unity, our individualness, each unique, personal expression of life. For all these reasons of Spirit expressing, I am proud that I am part of God's interwoven fabric of life called the San Diego Center for Spiritual Living. |

"Every man who knows how to read has it in his power to magnify himself,
to multiply the ways in which he exists, to make his life full, significant and interesting."

Have you magnified yourself lately? Have you made your life full? What have you done recently to make your life interesting? | Reaching Out To Our Community
Ken Casey
Outreach Coordinator
The San Diego Center for Spiritual Living continues to reach out to organizations in our community who are making a difference in people's lives and in our world. We are just in the final weeks of a successful book drive for our friends at the I AM Foundation; an organization with whom our San Diego Center for Spiritual Living has a long and rich history. The I AM Foundation's Million Books for Kids Campaign is donating inspirational, affirmative books to schools, libraries and homes of children throughout our community and world. We will be donating the books we have collected to a local organization that will benefit greatly from our wonderful love and contributions. If you would like to learn more about the I AM Foundation and the great programs they have, visit their web site at www.IAMFoundation.org.
On the three days of July 13 to July 15, we will be volunteering our time and treasure to work with Stand Down, presented by the Department of Veteran Affairs to provide services to homeless Veterans of our U.S. Armed Forces. Stand Down is an annual event that has been held at Balboa Park in San Diego every year since 1988. Its mission is to help provide coordinated, comprehensive services to homeless veterans. Some of the services offered during this three day event include: food, clothing, medical, legal and mental health assistance, job counseling and referral, and most importantly, companionship and camaraderie. Last year over 650 veterans and the families were served and over 8500 meals were delivered. We are proud to be able to support such a loving and caring program in our community. For more information about Stand Down visit http://www.vvsd.net/standdown.htm
Editor's Note:
As Ken is in Scotland at his nephew's wedding, please call Stand Down directly to register as a volunteer: (619) 393-2011. |

Practitioner Pillars
Constance Cook-Core, RScP
Holmes Institute Ministerial Student
Religious Science Practitioners have been trained in the art of compassionate listening and the skill of scientific prayer to effect positive change in themselves and others. Knowing that everything is created from the One Creative Source, and is made up of the only creative material that is available to that One Source, namely Itself, there is no doubt in a Practitioner's mind of the union of pure Spirit between Practitioner and Client. This connection is what enables the Practitioner to see through the circumstances of life to the core false belief that can be released through an understanding of spiritual truths.
In almost all cases, the set of circumstances that show up in our lives looking like individual "problems" are really only multiple experiences of a single causative belief. Your Practitioner listens deeply to both your words and the urgings of spiritual knowing to identify the core belief that is not serving you, and work with you to not just alleviate the symptoms, but to remove their cause with new information and spiritual truth.
All members of San Diego Center for Spiritual Living receive a certificate for a free Practitioner session for their birthday. This is done for two reasons. One, to support you in letting go of issues from the past and lay the foundation for a wonderful year for you. The other is to allow you to experience the great benefit of working with a Practitioner. We feel that by having the experience of a Practitioner session, you will see the value of being empowered to facilitate your spiritual growth through one-on-one spiritual counseling and in-depth spiritual mind treatment. ~ Namaste |
