The Healing Power of Art

As the East Village Community becomes alive with creativity and artistic expression, so we at Downtown Community Church share in this vision from our home in The NewSchool of Architecture and Design - a unique environment of constant creativity as the changing architectural student projects are displayed in our community room. It is an experience to behold!

INDIGO Movie Premiere, January 2005

DCC had Standing Room Only as we joined James Twyman, Stephen Simon and Neale Donald Walsch for the nation-wide Premier of INDIGO, The Movie. This movie about the INDIGO Children stars and was co-created by Neale Donald Walsh, author of the Conversations With God series of books. DCC was one of many Churches and AMC Theaters across the nation to host a combination of events to celebrate World Indigo Day; Expanding Consciousness Through Spiritual Cinema. The INDIGO film won the Audience Choice Award at the Santa Fe Film Festival and DCC members and guests experienced this wonderful film in our own sanctuary!

Concurrent with the INDIGO movie was the "New Thought Creative Arts" fund raiser which featured artistic, spiritual, and inspirational creations by authors and artisans who are members of the greater San Diego New Thought Community. We also had the greatest baked goods ever made, which was reason enough to show up!

DCC Birthday and Easter Celebration, March 2005

On Easter Sunday, 2001, Downtown Community Church was born in the urban core of San Diego. Rev. John Poleski and Dr. John Prieskorn led us in celebration as we entered into our 5th year of expansion and growth in realizing our vision of the creation of a vibrant and diverse spiritual community in San Diego's East Village.

Fashionable Fundraiser - Benefit Fashion Show and Brunch, April 2005

DCC hosted a benefit Fashion Show and Brunch featuring the Weekenders, USA, line of clothing. Guests enjoyed a light brunch before the Fashion Show and each attendee also received a gift from The I AM Foundation of the book Amazing Women Amazing World by Marsh Engle. A portion of the proceeds went to The San Diego Cooperative Charter School.

Dr. W. David Phears - Book Signing, May 2005

DCC hosted a special book signing for Dr. W. David Phears in May in celebration of his newest release: A Book of Weeks, 52 Gifts for Inner Transformation. Dr. Phears tells us, "Words are the keys to our success, whatever the perception of success is for you." His book uses 52 (and leap year bonus) acronyms of everyday words to create strategic mental and spiritual tools. Tools that, when used, facilitate the transformation of your life!

ARTSCAPE The Healing Power of Art, July 2005

Sponsored by The East Village Company, in cooperation with The NewSchool of Architecture, ARTSCAPE, The Healing Power of Art was an amazing Weekend Art Exposition and Benefit in support of Downtown Community Church and the Big Sister League of San Diego. The incredible display of the works of San Diego Artists, in myriad creative art forms, stimulated our senses leaving us breathless and in awe of the talents of the many artists and their creations. This event was covered by the local news television and featured an interview with the Founder and CEO of The East Village Company, Ms. Coco Cabuquit. You won't want to miss Artscape 2006!
