The Board of Directors is composed of 9 seats.
Every Avian member is assigned to a voting section (seats 1-9) based
upon entry into Avian. In Elections, members will vote for a
representative from their section to serve on the Board of Directors
(i.e., All members from voting section 1 will have the opportunity to
elect someone from section 1 to represent them on the Board of
Directors).
Once a member has been assigned to a section number upon entry into
Avian, that number will not change. Being in a given section will not
incur any "benefits" than being in another section so there
is no need to switch.
Board Members will serve a 3 month/12week (Real time) term. Current
Board members can continue to run in future elections in his/her
section. Theoretically, a board member could retain his/her seat
indefinitely. In order to "win" the seat, the candidate must
receive a majority (51%) popular vote from the section. The voting
period lasts one week(7 days). In the event of a tie, every member
from every other section will be allowed one vote. This period will
last only 3 days. IF there is still a tie and one of the candidates is
the former Board member, they retain their seat. If they are both new
candidates, then the Founder's Council will vote and the board member
will be selected.
At the end of the tri-monthly election, the new board members will
elect, from their ranks, a Chairman. They will also determine a time
frame on which to come together for meetings.
The Chairman of the Board's function will be to serve as board leader,
to guide meetings and to present Board decisions to at least one
member of the Founder's Council.
The Chairman will not normally vote on board policies, but will
instead cast his/her vote in the event of a tie. The Chairman is never
allowed to abstain from a tied vote. Policies require a 5-3(5-4 if
chairman has to break tie) vote in favor to pass and and make
presentation to the FC.
