My first Henry J in 1954 was a 1953,4cyl,with overdrive. It saw me through my last two years of High School misadventures. That's where I guess I caught the Henry J "Bug". I've owned all the model years and possible drive train combinations. A total of Seven Henry J's and one Allstate have carried me over 50,000 miles in the past 45 years. I owned four Henry Js before I came to California. I'm sorry I have no photos to share.
One of my best cars was was a 52 ALLSTATE. I reluctantly sold it when the real estate market in California went bust and took me with it.

It did not always look like this. Here it is below sitting in front of Vern Hunt's barn in Nebraska. I put 2 1/2 years of hard work into the redo.

I recently sold a 1951 6 cylinder with overdrive and 28,500 original miles. It won a bronze award at the KFOCI National based largely on its originality and it was the May 1998 KFOCI calendar car. It went to another KFOCI member's collection.
I liked the sleek ,long ,look the sun visor gave the car. It's a Fulton and really well made. I doubt that it originally came with the car but it looks nice. The deluxe wheel covers were new old stock when added about 2 years ago. The wide white Goodyears show no wear. It was hard to sell it but it went to make room for yet another Henry J.
The 1953 4 cylinder is a relatively new aquisition. It is very much like the Henry J that started it all for me way back in high school and brings back a lot of fond memories. This is a very sound little car and scored 170 out of a possible 200 points ,taking a silver award at a national several years ago. It has been idle (400 road miles in 4 years) and needs work to freshen it up. It has the very rare all 'gator tuck and roll seats (no fabric inserts). Also the ,not rare but seldom seen , combination of both a opening trunk and a fold down rear seat. I plan to keep this one around for a long time. Dropping from a great running 6 cylinder to a 4 cylinder involves a bit of readjustment. Luckily the new one has overdrive, as did the 6 cylinder.

Queens, each one.
