HUD

C5 Heads Up Display Retrofit.
The hardest part is finding everything you need & not buying something you didn't have to buy.

1. If you have a 97 or 98 you will need to buy a hud speedometer cluster, because
they don't come with  a place to plug in the dimmer control switch.

2. If you have a 99 or later you still need to buy the following. A projector, dimmer control switch, a bezel &
buy or make a 11 pin harness. You can buy clusters on ebay that have the dimmer control switch &
11 pin harness if you don't mind paying a little more.
Also if you buy another cluster you also must send it off to get the mileage updated to match
your current speedometer. The mileage is not stored in the computer as you would think.

COST ISSUES
From GM Parts Direct you can buy a projector for about $300 including shipping.
A dimmer switch is $75 including shipping
A bezel is about $16 plus shipping.
The 11 pin harness is only custom made & not for sale from GM.  Try
searching corvetteforum.com for people who make them if needed.
It is also recommend that you buy or borrow a dremel with a right angle.
That will cost around $100.

If it sounds like something you would like to have done but you would like have someone do it for you,
buy the parts above & contact G.I. Bob Vance for the installation price.

Here is an excellent web site including removing the dash.
I took some pictures below to add in assistance of the project.
http://joshker99.home.comcast.net/hudinstall2.htm

Shot of the line bottom of dash. Cut lines are
already in place from the factory.
Cut a little at a time so you don't over
cut your $300 dash.
We used JB weld in addition to screws
& washers to keep bezel in place.
Top view of dash when all glued
& screwed together.
View through windshield. Put projector in place,
mark holes & drill. We used rubber expansion nuts here.
There was a place to mount this bracket
from the factory here.
Getting there ! What a mess huh.
Drilling holes with dremel to mount projector. Arrow pointing to where the projector plugs in.
Shot of the harness I made. I got a 8 pin harness from a
TV repair shop & did some cutting & soldering.
View of the harness with added 4 pins. Note the wire colors
are not straight through. The colors jump all around.
See below for color coding.
Shot of new dimmer controls. The bottom one moves the
display up & down. The middle one is brightness.
The top one explained on next pic. There is also bulbs
behind it for night time.
Here's what the display looks like, sorry outta focus
If you press page it will change to oil press etc
or hold page to remove rpm's & stuff on the right.
