Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message | Show original | Report Abuse I saw a note that aragorn.andrew.cmu.edu is the new ICS server. Is this also the ftp site? I just tried to log in as anonymous, but I get "Can't set guest privileges." BTW, a few weeks ago I posted asking abort the *.ARJ archive format. Thanks to those who replied, a copy of the archiver is/will be in the Tools directory (I forget the full pathname) on {valkyries|aragorn}.andrew.cmu.edu. Matthew W. L. Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message | Show original | Report Abuse Since the real valkryies machine is away at a networking conference, we've been trying to do the best we can with the machines we have available (which have even included our personal machines in our dorm rooms...). Do to resource limitations, we are not able to offer ftp service from these spare machines, but we have attempted to keep the chess server up and running. Since we have extensively tuned the real valkyries server environment over the last year, its setup is much more stable than the ad-hoc systems we've patched together these last few days. We're sorry that service has been sporadic, but you can expect it to return to normal when the real valkyries returns in a few days. Note that what you see as "valkyries" right now is just a different machine that has stolen valkyries's IP address so people don't go looking all over the place for the chess server. You should be able to log in to valkyries port 5000 to at least find out where to play chess. -John
