I checked the games and discovered that someone with the handle BSpassky was playing. Have they no shame I thought, besmirching a GMs good name (besides hasn't Boris suffered enough lately?). Anyway I checked the stats only to discover that his speed rating is 2677! (believe it or don't), but what's fishy is his regular rating which is under 1000. The stats text was something to the effect of "just an old tennis player who doesn't have time to think" (it is well known that Spassky is an avid tennis player). So is this just another ruse or what? If it is, how was the 2677 rating established? If it isn't, where is Boris connecting to the Internet? Enquiring minds want to know. Stay tuned. Same bat-channel. Same bat-time. See "help computers". I believe it got its rotten standard-length-game rating by resigning a large number of games to Kon, as a joke. --Tim - Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - In article <1993May20.220940.29...@hal.depaul.edu>, pst...@falcon.depaul.edu (Peter Stein) writes: >Ok, so it appears that Anand really did play on ICS, but here's one to >top it: > A couple of days ago I logged on just to check messages and see > if anythings going on. Same bat-channel. Same bat-time. >Siegfried >pst...@falcon.depaul.edu >s...@tellabs.com I believe BSpassky is a computer, the great Deep Thought (Deep Blue?). This explains his dominant rating. (Though not his bizarre standard rating. I'm sure it's based on very few games. Maybe it had a bug? Does anyone know?) The computer had at least three handles last I checked - scratchy, BSpassky, and RFischer (so don't get excited when you see RFischer with a high rating ;) ). I think typing "help computers" on ICS will tell you that. As for the bit about the tennis player, it is well known - no doubt to the people running Deep Thought on the ICS. In other words, you don't have to be BSpassky himself to know that he plays tennis. :) Terry
