Are the players being compensated as they would be by say ABC or some other network? Have they been told of the plan to transmit the games live? If not, do you believe that you are within your rights to do so without permission? Thanks. I'm as much within my rights as Eric Schiller is if he succeeds in transmitting moves live for free, as he's said he wants to do. Why don't you ask Schiller that question? Seriously, though, I did get permission from the USCF itself. They were very skeptical about the potential profitability of such broadcasting, as I am, and couldn't be bothered to ask for compensation for themselves or the players. At this point I imagine it's a pragmatic decision on their part. If such broadcasting were to attract a large audience, the USCF would surely reevaluate whether or not it wants a cut. I will be posting the moves daily. Free. As with most really important events, the sponsors want the moves to be made available as widely as possible. Interplay will be happy to get their name in lights, and they are providing the funds that pay my fees. No need for net subscribers to turn over any money to third parties. The information you want is free. Not only the moves. There will be some analysis as well. Just like the PCA World Championship, though we had some posting problems early on there. Distribution of moves on the net will aways appeal to sponsors. The costs are so small that they barely cause a ripple in the budget. And the community of the net will come to the rescue when additional resources are needed (thanks again to Mark Crowther for his help during the PCA Times World Championship!). I had hoped to post American Open Games as well (I am bulletin editor there), but illness has caused me to remain up north in SF. Still, I hope to manage to get some games up anyway, combining a few modern technologies. Enjoy the games. They are, and shall remain, free of surcharges.
