From Herm Wild
I remember, during the period when we were in the process of checking out the sites for acceptance from GDA. We were being pressured to some extent by the contractors to get on with things. We were called to a meeting by Col. Jella, then Sq. commander. He let it be known to us that we were responsible for buying these sites, and we better be sure everything worked properly, and that all the TO,s were accurate and in keeping with the way things were supposed to function. His comments were that if we bought the sites with warts and glitches in them, that once signed for, the sites would be our baby, and we would have to live with the shortcomings, and solve them on our own.
We took him very seriously, and questioned every maint. procedure that  we were to be responsible for, sometimes to the chagrin of the GDA personnel who were in a rush to move on to Cheyenne Wyo. I have always felt that with that kind of leadership and maint. dedication to that concept, we were well on our way to establishing the sort of maint. record that the 567th became noted for.
At the time of this meeting, I remember we were engaged in the process of the checkout and acceptance of the Davenport site.
