OUR GOD CANNOT DO EVERYTHING

Did you know that we serve an all-powerful God who cannot do everything? Actually, that's true. The Bible tells us about a great many things that God cannot do. I have listed 22 such things in the next paragraph.

The things that God cannot do include: He cannot be tempted by evil (James 1:13), Cannot do evil (Job 34:10), Cannot lie (Nu 23:19; Titus 1:2; He 6:18), Cannot be taught (Is 40:13-14), Cannot change His mind (Nu 23:19), Cannot deny Himself or change in any essential way (2 Ti 2:13; Mal 3:6; James 1:17), Cannot share His glory with any other (Is 42:8), Cannot let Himself be defamed (Is 48:11), Cannot be the Co-Master of your life (Matt 6:24), Cannot contradict Himself (specifically referring to His written revelation, De 13:1-5; Gal 1:8-9; Rev 13:11-15, 19:20; 1 Ki 13:11-26) Cannot repent (1 Sa 15:29), Cannot be ignored by sinful men (Ro 1:18-20), Cannot be deceived or tricked ("mocked", Gal 6:7), Cannot be ignorant of anything (Job 31:4; I Jn 3:20), Cannot fail to judge the wicked (Is 43:13), Cannot save anyone apart from Christ (Acts 4:12; John 14:6), Cannot stop loving (1 Chron 16:34; Ps 106:1), Cannot fail to accomplish His purpose (Da 4:35), Cannot lose His grip on those He loves (Ro 8:38-39; Is 14:24; Hos 11:8), Cannot do wrong (De 32:4), Cannot forget those He loves (Is 49:16), Cannot fail to save His people (Matt 1:21; Ro 8:28-31).

It is important to understand that the reason that God cannot do these things has everything to do with His character (Who He is, What He is like), and very little to do with His power. Because this is true, the things that God cannot do reveal His character and ways just as much as the things that He can do. Therefore, the list of things that God cannot do can be used to tell people about what God is like. This is a good point to keep in mind the next time someone challenges you with the question of an all-powerful God who cannot do everything.
