"IF GOD'S REVELATION IS SO
CLEAR WHY DON'T ALL SEE IT?" |
|
|
God has made Himself known.
His revelation is clear and unavoidable. Since God's revelation is both clear and unavoidable each
person ought to clearly understand it, and all people ought to understand it
the same way, right? That fact is
that all people do not understand – or even acknowledge – God's
revelation. Why is this? To answer questions like this we must understand something about sin
and the way it has affected both the clarity of God's revelation and our
ability to "see" it for what it is. There are at least two ways that sin has affected our ability to
understand God's revelation. Because
of sin each person hates God, refuses to seek Him, and in fact tries to
eliminate Him from their life (Isa 59:2; Ro 1:21-32, 3:11, 8:5-8; Ps 53).
This is true of every person until he or she is saved by Christ. This was true of me and it was true of
you. Second, because of sin God's
revelation is obscured: the creation is cursed and needs to be renewed, and
the image of God in man is defaced and needs to be restored (Ge 3:17-18; Ro
8:20-22; Eph 4:24; Col 3:10). So,
while God reveals Himself perfectly, sin has so marred His revelation (in
creation and conscience) that it is difficult to understand. In addition, in the two areas where His
revelation is still clear (the Bible and in Christ), sin has affected us so
that we do not want to know God or what He has revealed. In fact, sin has made it impossible to
understand God's revelation. But what is impossible for man is child's play for God (Matt 19:26). Since sin obscures and defaces God's
revelation, God must give us something strong enough to overrule the effects
of sin. He does this by giving us His
Spirit. To see God's clear revelation
clearly, a person must be remade the Spirit.
That is why Jesus said a person must be born again – he must become a
new creation – in order to see the Kingdom of God (John 3:3; I Cor 2:12-14; 2
Cor 5:17). Today, thank God that He has saved you and given you His Spirit. Ask Him to open your eyes even more so
that you can see Him better and love Him more. |
