Revised October 24, 2004
Connecticut has two main support group organiziations. CHN, the Connecticut Homeschool Network is an inclusive group which coordinates many local groups, with both Christian and secular focuses. TEACH, the Education Association of Christian Homeschoolers, is a Christian group. I also highlight here one local group, the Sleeping Giant Homeschoolers that we have had some involvement with in the past.
CHN opened in June 2001, the Connecticut Homeschool Network. Led by Sue Mahieu CHN has been publishing a detailed newsletter of CT Homeschooling activities for some time. It seeks to be an independent, online-based homeschool community dedicated to sharing information, knowledge, and resources with other homeschooling families or with those interested in homeschooling.
NEW
National Home Education Legal Defense (a development out of CT's C.U.R.E. - Connecticut's Citizens to Uphold the Right to Educate) is not a new group at all and it is not strictly speaking a support group, but they have provided invaluable LEGAL support to CT's homeschoolers since 1989. Attorney Deborah G. Stevenson founded and has led this group through many battles over the years. There is more about NHELD on my page for them or on their own web site.
One former group, CHEA appears to have dissolved. Some of its functions of coordinating and supporting inclusive homeschoolers seem to have been absorbed by CHN.
