Hammonasset Beach State Park

Hammonasset Beach is located on Route 1 in Madison, Connecticut just south of I-95 Exit 62. The park offers camping, hiking, swimming, fishing and bird watching. Hammonasset is open year round and charges for parking during the summer season but generally only on nice weekends in the spring and fall.

The State owned beach which stretches out for a good two miles along the Long Island Sound coast consists of 919 acres of salt marsh, field and beach.

Directions:
  • Driving north (east) on I-95, Exit 62 is at the 67 mile marker, just past the last Rest Area on I-95 in CT. Take Exit 62. Turn RIGHT off the ramp.

  • Driving south (west) on I-95, Exit 62 is at the 67 mile marker, just before the Rest Area. Turn LEFT off the ramp.

  • After exiting the highway, drive one mile south to light at US Rte 1. Go straight through light and that is the park entrance. Proceed to gatehouse. Avoid the one furthest to the right - it is for the Campground only.

Where to fly:

Once inside the park proceed to the rotary and take first right towards West Beach.
West Beach is a long beach with a full length boardwalk. Just inside the boardwalk are several very large grass fields.
West Beach is where all official club events are held at Hammonasset.

Some members also fly at Miegs Point, another location in the park. Miegs Point is less open but is better in an easterly wind. To reach this location, once inside the park, go 3/4 of the way around the rotary and follow the signs to Miegs Point.
