About the Author

This book in my opinion is a must have for anyone who is playing online, I like it even better than Lee Jones WLLH.  The book would be an excellent first book for anyone looking to play the game. It would also be useful to the player who is having problems with their games and finally it is useful to the advanced player to reinforce concepts and fundementals. I typically read a book then re-read Matthews just to keep hammering in good fundamentals. The book starts out laying the foundation like most books do and it starts to discuss what poker is about online. Then it talks about how to figure odds, outs and implied odds. Its written in an easy to understand manner for players having trouble calculating. Then it covers bluffing, check raising, slow playing for those that don't know how to properly apply them and how some at the micro limits online are almost useless.

Next the book gives a starting hand chart which is very unique, it shows which hands are playable from different position and based on number of callers/raisers and whether to call/raise or fold based on the conditions. I have never seen a preflop chart so well put together. The book then talks about modifying the starting hand charts slightly based on skill levels of intermediate and advanced players.

Next the book covers the flop and the various hands that you may have or may be drawing for and how to play them. After the flop the book discusses how to play the turn and river. The neat thing about the book at the end of every chapter it gives a summary or review of the important aspects of the previous chapter. It also gives scenario hand examples that were real hands and you determine how you play the hand then Matthew explains how the hand should be played and how the player actually played the hand and the results.

Playing your Opponent chapter discusses the types of players you will face and how to use their styles of play to be profitable. Bankroll management is discussed to keep you from going broke. Then the section on More on Internet Poker covers online tells, chasing promotion bonuses, a little talk about tournaments, cheating and playing for a living.

This book is geared for anyone who wants to play Limit 10 player ring games. If that is your cup of tea or you would like to work on fundamentals then this book is for you. What it doesn't cover is NL/PL games, Tournament Strategies and Short handed games (i.e. 6 max tables).  I'm hoping that Matthew puts out another book as this book is simply incredible and its his first book. I can only expect the next one to be simply superb.  Also Matthew runs his own website and forum which has a lot of good players posting daily.  The quality of the threads would surely help any ones game. A link to his website is on the main page of this blog.  This book is a must have, I give it 9 out of 10 stars.
