If you've already got kids, you've already had a trial by fire and are hopefully beyond the basic training stage.  But if you've just stumbled upon this website and happen to be a dad-to-be (i.e. expecting your first child), then you might like to look into taking this class.  It's just one class, two and a half hours long, where you can get "a better understanding of [your] role in labor and delivery and to be better prepared to be active, involved fathers."

YMCA Childcare Resource Services (web)

YMCA CRS can assist families in finding quality child care, educate parents as consumers of child care services, and assist families of children with developmental disabilities with respite care, among other services.  They also provide child development resources, training and enrichment to child care providers.  Be sure to take a look at their parents' guide to choosing child care.

If you have any concerns whatsoever regarding the development of your child from ages birth through three years, the San Diego Regional Center is the county's resource for tapping into the wealth of services offered through California Early Start.  Here are just a few of the services offered: family training, counseling, and home visits; medical services for diagnostic/evaluation purposes only; occupational therapy; physical therapy; psychological services; social work services; special instruction; and speech and language services.  Early intervention is the key.

EFRC is a community-based collaborative agency, staffed by parents and professionals. It is designed to serve families of individuals with special needs by providing a broad continuum of information, education, and support. Services and supports are offered in English and Spanish.
