Crow, Benjamin (b. ABT 1756/1757, d. ABT 1832)
Note: Different researchers have him born in MD, DE & VA Abt 1763 He moved with his
parents to Augusta Co, VA and grew up on Linville and Cook's Creek near
Harrisonburg in newly formed Rockingham Co, VA.
His request for a Revolutionary Pension was denied because they could find no
record of his service. He stated he was a Private in Capt. David Stinson's
Co, 8th Regiment of the Virginia Line. Muster rolls and copies of payroll
shows him serving at Valley Forge.
He was ill much of the time, and at one time some articles, gun, etc., was
stolen from him. He had given the receipt for the articles to his father,
Walter, who had lost them.
Abt 1783 He moved to North Carolina, Greene Co, which area later became part
of Tennessee. He was a Colonel in the Greene Co, Tennessee Militia.
1801 A letter from his brother, James, of Abingdon, VA to another brother,
William, in Danville, KY; telling of Benjamin selling his plantation for 500
pounds and getting 400 pounds in cash.
1802 He moved his family to Upper Louisiana to found Bellview, which after
the Louisiana Purchase and the founding of the State of Missouri became part
of Missouri.
1817-1819 He moved to Clark Co, Arkansas Territory, most of his family moving
with him.
1830 He is listed in the Clark Co, Arkansas US Census.
A DAR marker has been given to Benjamin Crow in Clark Co, Arkansas showing him
with Revolutionary Service as a Sgt.
Note: According to Mitch Crow he was shot in hit at Battle of Brandywine, 4th VA
Regiment of Foot.
