Note: Durant Mishap Claims Pioneer County Couple--(newspaper article, source
unknown)
Injuries from a freak accident in Durant Friday claimed the lives of two
Kingston residents who had lived in Marshall County since Indian Territory
days.
Charles H. Crow, 86, and his wife, Della, 82, died in a Durant Hospital.
Mrs. Crow died about eight hours following the accident. He died Saturday
afternoon. Double funeral services for the couple were conducted Monday
afternoon from the Kingston Church of Christ. Burial was in Woodville
Cemetery under the direction of Watts Funeral Home. Charles, William, Jim and
Tommy Lemmons, Vaden Ragsdale and Willie Bob Russel were pallbearers.
Mr. and Mrs. Crow had gone to Durant Friday to visit a doctor. The Durant
Police Dept. stated the Crows' 1950 model car was headed east toward downtown
Durant and while turning a corner the car skidded into the curgbing causing it
to veer back to the direction from which it came. The car then jumped a curb
and rolled across the lawn of the Ken Ruhl home at 1304 West Main about 60
feet before slamming into the brick structure. Force of the impact was such
that it shoved the wall inward, splitting the interior wall and damaging
portion of the ceiling.
Mr. Crow had lived in Marshall County since 1900 when he moved to
Woodville, OK. He was born 25 Nov 1880 in Leavenworth, KS. He was employed
as a railroad fireman as a young man. Following his marriage to Mrs. Crow on
6 Jun 1903 they were engaged in farming.
Mrs. Crow was born 29 Apr 1884 in Cabool, MO and moved to Woodville in 1899.
Her maiden name was Sheppard.
Survivors include two children, Mrs. Ocea Ciaccio and Mrs. Opal Lemmons
both of Kingston, five grandsons and nine great grandchildren.
