Damien:
Zane used to have this big pool table in his house and we would
get together on the weekends, have a few strong drinks, play a bit of
pool, listen to 60s psych and brain storm! I had been working on a four
track project a few years earlier called OLIVER'S LOT. I was creating
new songs in the old psych vein and I was sharing these ideas with Zane
and that led to me getting back into it, but this time with another writer!
I remember us running into his music room and I wrote "Walter Ghoul's
Lavender Brigade Is Coming" after which we named the project. The
name "Walter Ghoul" was actually
a name my father would call me whenever I wore my trademark trench coat
back in the 80s. "Here comes Walter Ghoul,"
he would say. |

The next song we did was "Don't Walk Away", which we decided, sounded too mid 60s so we thought, let's keep the song and claim it's from the mid 60s when they went by the name The Loft. So the history was falling into place as we created it, I should add, Zane and I were doing other projects during this time. This fake 60s thing was just a weekend hobby/passion. We probably played more games of pool than wrote songs. |
