It's been slowly creeping into my old brain that the so-called "Cold War" is not only not over, but actually warming up!
Although Ronald Regan plunged the USA into debt to build a truly powerful military during the 80's, today the US military is in shambles. In recent years, the Defense Budget has been cut in favor of social programs, until there isn't even enough ammunition to arm the troops who haven't already resigned. Yet politicians and the *media* keep insisting the USA is the most powerful nation on Earth.
The NATO war on Yugoslavia (a country with about half the gross economic product of the State of Colorado) is illegal under all NATO and UN charters as well as international law. This foolish aggression has obviously done far more damage to the people of Yugoslavia than any of the civil actions could possibly have done. Moral high ground ... I think not.
Besieged by the "media's" myriad of omissions, half-truths and outright lies (propaganda) about the present global situation, perhaps we have lost our way. Without knowing the real facts, how can we understand what is happening in the world?
Consider these facts:
(1) Russia's economy is in pitiful condition, and various factions are fighting for control. Russia still has most of its effective nuclear arsenal intact, and is now flying its strategic bombers toward the USA and other NATO countries. Considering that NATO (the USA) has just attacked one of its allies, does anyone really believe their nuclear missiles are not targeted at the United States?
(2) China has at least two dozen ICBMs capable of striking targets in the USA. China and Russia consummated an alliance between their countries in September of 1998. China has obtained ALL of the USA's nuclear and missile technology, most since they Contributed generously to the Democratic Party (Clinton). Why in this new *free world market* prosperity, with Russia as an ally, does China need nuclear ICBMs (at least half of which are targeted at cities in the USA)?
(3) India and Pakistan are now at war. Both countries now have missiles and seem to have no qualms about using nuclear weapons on one another.
(4) North Vietnam has nuclear weapon technology, and is now testing ICBMs. This even as most of the North Vietnamese people are starving.
(5) Iraq has now had more than the projected six months to develop and deploy the nuclear and biological weapons its scientists have worked on for years.
(6) Osama bin Laden is a wealthy and prominent man, respected if not honored by most Moslems. He has declared a holy war by all Muslims against the United States, and has delivered his message on television throughout the Middle East.
(7) Over three-quarters of the worlds population have condemned the NATO (USA) attack on Yugoslavia. Only on the Internet is this information available. *The media* has not told the peoples of the USA and the NATO countries about this.
(8) The president of the United States of America is immoral, a draft dodger and a liar. Without consulting congress or "the people", he committed the armed forces of the United States to a war on Yugoslavia. These are simply facts.
(9)
The Congress of the United States of America, aware of the above recited
facts, has refused to remove the immoral and criminal president from office.
They have also refused to stop the illegal war on Yugoslavia, and budgeted
over ten billion dollars to conduct it. These facts clearly indicate that
this congress, indeed the whole government of the United States, is without
integrity or honor.
One thing is certain. The old "Cold War" is indeed only a memory. The new
power struggle in the world today is not the USA vs. Russia. It is now
most of the nations and peoples of the world against the United States.
What do you suppose future historians will call this phenomenon?
