Dan's BASIC and Visual Basic Programs

This page is quite outdated. I have made some improvements to the Ten Thousand Dice game, and also wrote DynaBar, a new program similar to the MS Office Shortcut bar putting shortcuts in a compact window on your screen. It is fully configurable by modifying the .ini file and is a work in progress. Other programs not included here are: a tic-tac-toe style math game for learning multiplication, division, subtraction, and addition; file commenting utility for associating comments with files on your hard drive to keep track of all those crazy things you keep downloading from the internet; and a few others only worth mentioning if you are REALLY interested (and if you are, email me).
Some of the files on this page are in self-extracting zip format. You should download the zipped executable file and place it in a new directory. Then run the executable file from the DOS prompt or start it with File Manager if using Win3.11 or Start/Run if using Win95. This will extract the zipped files in your new directory.
These programs were written with MS Visual Basic 3.0 and run under Windows. They require the file vbrun300.dll to be in your windows/system directory. Download it vbrun300.exe(~246K) now and put it in your windows/system directory.
The following files are excecutable program files. Some programs require special files with .vbx or .dll extensions. If special files are required, they are listed below. You may already have them in your windows/system directory. If so you just need to download the minimum version of the program by clicking on the name. If not, you will need to download the "full" version which includes all files needed in self-extracting zipped format.
  • alarm-Simple Windows alarm clock. (~8K) Requires msafinx.dll for full version. (~32K)
  • check-Nothing more than a checkbook balancing calculator. (~7K)
  • dice-Shareware version of 10000 dice game for Windows. (~34K) Requires cmdialog.vbx for full version. (~31K)
  • postit-Makes a very simple post it note for computer screen. (~6K)
  • star-Draws some stars suitable for use as html background. (~7K)

These programs work with GWBasic and BasicA. They are saved in plain ascii format. basic.exe-Self extracting zip file containing all gwbasic programs listed above. (~77K)
