The Games
  • SMALL - After playing a number of games in a tiny universe, Craig and I decided to step up to a small universe with just six computer opponents. There is more room for expansion in this game, and Craig has been in the lead for decades in game time.
  • MIDNIGHT - Started at midnight, in what is now known as the ideal time for starting a Stars! game, Kevin is hosting this game with Craig and I in a tiny universe and no computer players. The first 30 turns or so were done that first night, but now months go by without a turn. Kevin, where are our midnight turns?!

  • Turns are currently being sent by email.
The Rules
  • Turns are due each weekday at noon. New turns will be generated without all players submitting turns. We all may miss turns from time to time. To keep up interest in the game, all players must do their best to submit turns regularly. If half or more of the players do not submit turns, no turn will be generated. Possible exceptions may be made. It can't hurt to ask.
  • Weekend turns are not required. If all players are in however, turns will be generated. Turns that are made available before Sunday at 1:00 pm are due at noon on Monday. Turns made available after Sunday at 1:00 pm are not required to be in until Tuesday at noon.
  • Turns available on this page are in self extracting executable format. This format is necessary so that the web server will serve the turns correctly as binary files (it does not do so for unzipped turns). Email notices will go out after the turn is generated with the turn attached.
  • Please return your x? files via email attachment to dynamixdan@fastmail.fm. Please include the year in the Subject of the email. This can be done easily by responding to the notification email which will contain the correct year.
  • Please address questions and comments to dynamixdan@fastmail.fm
Past Games
  • CRAIG - A three player game in a tiny universe. Dan, his cousin Kevin, and brother in law Craig are going head to head in Craig's first Stars game.
Game ended when Craig surrendered. Final player scores: Dan-1084 Craig-458 Kevin-162
  • EIGHT - Small universe, packed stars, eight players, this game is Dan's first game hosting for players invited from the internet. Beginner and novice players responded and the game is underway. A variety of races jammed into a small universe forces diplomacy and skill. An excellent game for learning the ropes and experimenting with race design.
Game alliances were Donii, WinterMute, Banjo-ru vs. P'Keron, Illuminati, Maxxtor with Humanoids mostly neutral and Fluboids eliminated early. A 2/3 players vote ended the game in the year 2529. Final player scores:Donii-3248, P'Keron-2634, WinterMute-2282, Illuminati-2100, Humanoids-1962, Maxxtor-1624, Banjo-ru-542
Games on hold
  • TWOB - or not to be, that is the question Dan and Kevin are trying to tackle as they take on two computer players in a tiny universe.
  • DAN - A classic showdown between Dan and the man who introduced him to stars, Doug.
  • FOUR - Craig, Kevin, Dan, and Doug crammed into a tiny universe! This is certain to be the best game Dan has hosted to date.
  • KEVIN - Kevin's Kingdom! Craig, Dan, and Kevin take the big step up into a small sized universe. Six computer opponents may force them to team up or die. This game was started primarily for fast turn taking during family get togethers.

Dan's Stars Utilities
  • Stars Artists Toolkit - Dan is in the process of capturing all the icon sized images from the Stars! game, making the backgrounds transparent, and saving them all with the same 256-color palette. Using an image editing program (like Paint Shop Pro) you can paste together fleets of ships or even battle scenes. These kinds of images can give your game a more realistic feel. The images on this page were created with my toolkit. If you are interested in obtaining a preliminary copy of the toolkit, feel free to email me.
  • Stars Game Generator - Have you ever gone to the trouble of setting up all the options for a new game, only to realize seconds after pushing FINISH that you forgot to check an option you wanted or to provide a title for your game? You have to go all the way through the game set up again and hope you don't forget anything again. Stars! provides a command line option which will read in the game parameters from a simple text file, but configuring that file can be as difficult as going through the game setup several times. I started writing a utility that looks and feels very much like the stars game generator you are used to. It writes the text file for you when you FINISH, so you can load it in again if you need to. If you are interested in a Beta version, send me an email.
