HISTORY
(BASED ON JOHN A. SANDS, JR. PRIVATE PUBLICATION HAVING THE ABOVE TITLE)
PICTURE GALLERY
In 1976,
John A. Sands, Jr. produced a second edition of his private publication
entitled “Finch Family History”. This publication contains three chapters (the
bulleted items below), and provides a basis for the genealogy presented here.
Enumerated on this web site are many of the descendants for Thomas Finch, who
arrived in
John Sands based his Finch genealogy on that previously documented by Thomas Henry Finch (1829-1889), extending this information with what he had compiled in his own ten year study of the family. John's publication consists of three sections, and are found in the three bulleted items below. The first two bulleted items are transcriptions for his first two sections, both of which are fairly short. The third section contains the bulk of his publication and is the descendant report for Thomas Finch of New Kent Co., VA. However, the descendant report below has been further extended thanks to additional data that was more recently provided by other descendants of Thomas Finch (of New Kent Co., VA).

Report for Thomas Finch (of New Kent Co., VA)
To enable more efficient access of this information on the web, the report
has been separated into four accessible parts.
The first part contains information on the first six
generations, including Thomas. The last three parts of the report contain
generations seven, eight,
and nine through eleven, respectively.
Keeping with the spirit that John Sands prescribes in his introduction, further extensions and modifications to this genealogy have been incorporated since his publication. These additions are now incorporated with the other descendants of Thomas Finch, and where they appear, their source has been identified.
I would like to particularly thank Bob Clay, Karen McClendon, Charles E. Scruggs, and J. Patrick Smith, who have provided me with most of the information that is presented here. Bob Clay not only made available the John Sands document and included extensions for his line, he also provided the pictures that appear in the above Picture Gallery, which he found in his father’s trunk. Only three individuals in these pictures are identified. Presumably, the others are also members of the Clay-Finch-Sharp families. If anyone thinks they recognize any of them, please contact me.

Search this and/or allied websites for information
The PICO search window below can be used to
find subjects of interest that are within web pages. Control over whether the
search is limited to information on this web site, one of the other eight allied
sites, or all nine web sites is made by clicking on the "down caret" that
appears near the right hand side of the search window.
Then, by typing your subject(s) of interest (one or more words) into the
search box on the left hand side of the
window, and selecting the type of search desired using the "down caret" that
appears below the box where you typed your subjects of interest, the search
engine will either search for web pages with the EXACT subject phrase you typed,
or those with ANY of the subject words entered, or it can find every webpage
that contains ALL of the subject words entered.
Results from the Search Engine will show the list of pages that contain your search subject. You can then open these pages and, using the search (or find) facilities of your web browser, locate the specific references to that subject for which you have searched.
If you are unfamiliar with search engines, or would like to be more proficient in their use, an excellent and easy to read explanation may be found on this page of Cliff Lamere's Web Site.
