Comte de Grasse Chapter

Yorktown, Virginia

The Victory Monument stands on top of a bluff overlooking the scenic York River at Yorktown, Virginia, where the seminal battle of the War for Independence was fought. Authorized by the Continental Congress in 1781, the 96-foot marble column, topped by a statue of Victory, honors the French Alliance and the allied defeat of the British army under Lord Charles Cornwallis.
