Descendants of Peter D. Little of Kentucky
                                            4 Generations

Peter D. Little was an early Kentucky frontiersman and pioneer.  His large family is well-documented, at least partly because several of his descendants were ministers who kept careful records.  I have made no attempt to develop the lines other than to show a direct lineage.  Peter is not related to me, but I am including this brief genealogy of some of his descendants because his great-granddaughter, Maude Myrtle Little, was the stepmother of my mother (Mary Elizabeth Barlow, b.1908) since she was the second wife of George Ralston Barlow, my grandfather.  Maude's parents, John Miles Little and Lou Alice (Gillmore) Little came to Taylor County IA before 1897 and their family grew up in Bedford, Iowa.  Living in Clarinda, Page County IA, my family was acquainted with a number of Maude's close relatives since she sometimes brought them to Clarinda to visit us, and on occasion we visited Lou Little in Bedford.  This page is published with the hope that it will be helpful to others related to this Taylor County, Iowa, family, and is dedicated to the memory of "Great-Grandma" Lou Little (1866-1963) who was one of the sweetest persons I ever met.  -- EJ 2002

Generation No. 1

1.  PETER D.1 LITTLE  (JOSEPHA) was born 1785 in Virginia or North Carolina, and died Abt. 1839 in Morgan County, Kentucky.  He married HANNAH MINTON March 24, 1824 in Morgan County, Kentucky, daughter of PHILIP MINTON and LAVINA WATKINS.  She was born Abt. 1788 in Virginia, and died Aft. 1860 in Wolfe County, Kentucky.

Note:  The family of Peter D. Little has been studied extensively by Bonnie S. Ball, who has published her findings.  The family here is based on Ms. Ball’s articles with my own personal reference to census and other sources.  Several generations of Littles lived in Morgan and Wolfe Counties KY; most notably on Gillmore Creek in Wolfe County.  Wolfe separated from Morgan County in 1860.

2.  HARRISON H.2 LITTLE (PETER D.1, JOSEPHA) was born September 16, 1828 in Morgan County, Kentucky, and died October 11, 1900 in Wolfe County, KY.  He married MARY ANN "Polly" WILSON October 27, 1848, daughter of JOSEPH WILSON and POLLY KASH.  She was born Abt. 1826.

Note:  Harrison was a minister of the Christian Church.  The family has been compiled primarily from censuses of 1860, 1870, & 1880.

Note:  It is unknown why both John C.B. Little and John Miles Little used the same first name; census of 1870 and 1880 refer to John Miles Little as "Miles".  Apparently John Miles Little adopted the name at a later time in his life.

3.  JOHN MILES3 LITTLE (HARRISON H.2, PETER D.1, JOSEPHA) was born January 18, 1863 in Hazel Green, Wolfe County, Kentucky, and died November 16, 1937 in Bedford, Taylor, Iowa.  He married LOU ALICE GILLMORE August 21, 1885.  She was born February 04, 1866 in Hazel Green, Kentucky, and died March 24, 1963 in Bedford, Taylor, Iowa.

Note:  This family moved to Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa, before 1897.  The "Gillmore" spelling is from Kentucky census records, but I believe that Lou herself may have spelled her maiden name "Gilmore".

4.  MAUDE MYRTLE4 LITTLE (JOHN MILES3, HARRISON H.2, PETER D.1, JOSEPHA) was born July 18, 1888 in Hazel Green, Wolfe County KY, and died 1977 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa.  She married (1) GEORGE RALSTON BARLOW September 1912 in Des Moines, Polk Co., Iowa, son of JOHN FRANKLIN BARLOW and MARY M. CLEMENS.  He was born April 01, 1871 in Royers Ford, Montgomery, Pennsylvania, and died October 29, 1933 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa.  She married (2) OSWALD LORENZ February 29, 1952 in St. Petersburg, Florida.  He died 1957 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa.  She married (3) GEORGE FISHER Aft. 1960.

Note: John Earl Barlow graduated from West Point in 1936, and served in World War II and during the Korean War.  He retired with significant disabilities after 20 years, as a Colonel.  He was editor of the West Point annual the year he graduated.

5.  HARRY W.4 LITTLE (JOHN MILES3, HARRISON H.2, PETER D.1, JOSEPHA) was born February 1895 in Hazel Green, Wolfe County KY.  He married DEAN BRISTOW September 07, 1914 in Bedford, Taylor,  Iowa.

Child of HARRY LITTLE and DEAN BRISTOW is:
     i. DORA LOU5 LITTLE.

6.  ROLLAND EARL4 LITTLE (JOHN MILES3, HARRISON H.2, PETER D.1, JOSEPHA) was born November 23, 1897 in Bedford, Taylor, Iowa, and died September 03, 1960 in Chicago, Cook, IL.  He married PAULINE WALKER.  She was born September 26, 1899 in Bedford, Taylor, Iowa, and died January 16, 1973 in St. Charles, IL.

7.  ALLYN MAE4 LITTLE (JOHN MILES3, HARRISON H.2, PETER D.1, JOSEPHA) was born June 17, 1899, and died September 1979 in Siloam Springs, Benton County, AR.  She married HAROLD FLICKINGER December 24, 1924 in Carthage, MO.  He was born August 13, 1901, and died May 12, 2000 in Siloam Springs, Benton County AR.

Child of ALLYN LITTLE and HAROLD FLICKINGER is:
     i. MILES5FLICKINGER, b. September 23, 1925, Siloam Springs, Benton County AR; d. November 13, 1973.
