This is only my second year in the club and I must say it has been the most rewarding clubs I have ever had the pleasure of being in. This is in stark contrast to some of the more thankless youth organizations I have been it
The sad part is the fact I was there in about the Summer of 1978 during the Mustang Clubs humble beginnings. It was summer time and just south of the college in Edmond there was a park we would meet at. There was maybe 10 of us with Mustangs. The one person I remember most was a dark haired guy with glasses. I am guessing he was about 5.5 tall with a slender build. He was the primary promoter at that time. Maybe some one remembers him? For the life of me I can't remember his name. But I do remember he drove a Dark Green Shelby that was absolutely SUPER! I am assuming he lived in or at least near Edmond Oklahoma Since that's where he was often seen hanging out. I furthermore, recall he made a map for a road rally that took place right near the Edmond college. I did not participate in that rally But I do recall hearing him talk about it in a big way. It sounded like a lot of fun. After that the matter of the a club just sort of faded away. I do recall seeing him a couple more time at the Annual Darrel Star Bird car show in the winter months. Mustang owners than would skip a year in order to enter the Star bird show. Seems they had some rule that prevented consecutive year entries unless you did some thing major to your car each year, Change a motor, New Paint New interior and so on. Needless say Shelby owners would not want to change any thing. Rather they would just skip the star bird show every other year. Can't say I blame um though.
Any way the years rolled by. My son was born in 1983 and my daughter was born in 1987 It was September of 1987 that I sold my Black over Black 1965 Mustang 2+2 fastback to a father and Son from Tuttle Oklahoma. I have often wondered what happened to it. I would love to see it again.
At any rate at that time my priorities had changed from owning a Mustang to Having a big enough house to to raise kids in the good schools of Mustang. And No, My wife did not make me do it. It was just something that I felt was right at the time.
It was not till years later the Mustang interest was reborn with me when my son was now tiring of the neighbors Buick Regal we bought him. Well when the transmission went dead he wanted a "Mustang" Go figure? I guess this was when the Mustang Bug was again under my skin. We got him a dark blue 1990 Hatchback 5 speed standard. Than we got his sister a white 92 notch back automatic.
Than after few wrecks I found it was no time to throw in the towel. Seems that very few people have love for the 4 popper Mustangs. Thus they can be had for a song. Plus with all the automotive schools that I took advantage of while at Fort Sill and add that to the current gas prices of 2.27 per gallon I couldn't be happier.
As I laugh my way past the pump................Cheers
What can I say I love to tinker?
