NS 2697 leads roadrailers eastbound on the Ft Wayne Line at mp 56, south of Youngstown, OH, July 31, 2006.

When the SD70M-2 were new, they were seen on 227 and 228 in Virginia. A real rare treat was three M-2s leading 227 westbound on the B-line at Cody, VA, May 13, 2006.

Two new 70M-2s lead NS 227 on April 27, 2006, north of Boyce, VA, on the H-line.

Before NS 203 was moved from a northern terminal of Alexandria, VA, to Ruthorford, PA, a link down the NE Amtrak corridor was explored. NS 3032 and two other ex-CR GP40s lead 25A southbound on the corridor at Bowie, MD, November 1, 2003.

NS 3531 leads three other B32s with NS 203, southbound on the H-line at Luther Jones Road, Shenandoah Junction, WV, May 12, 2006. At one time, the pig trains in non-cab signal territory were hauled by GP60 and B32 units. These units suffered too many failures for such time-sensitive service, and most returned to local work.

NS 7102 leads three other GP60s across the Potomac River at Shepherdstown, WV, with NS 214, September 9, 2002.

NS 7140, in a updated horsehead lifesaver scheme, leads NS 211 eastbound on the B-line at Markham, VA, August 27, 2006.

NS 9000, with hogger Curtis Brookshire (now the RFE), leads the Ringling Brother circus train southbound at Monroe, VA, April 13, 2004.

NS 9366 leads autoracks westbound at Thompsontown, PA, on the Pittsburgh Division, September 1, 2007.

Sometimes, a pure consist of NS power will lead trains off-line. NS 9426 leads two other units with a westbound double stack train climbing Edelstein Hill on the old Santa Fe main across Illinois, September 27, 2007.

A little photoshop lets VRE 05 lead VRE 327 past NS 9742 southbound with NS 203 at Burke Center, VA, March 3, 2004.

NS 9831 leads NS 20V eastbound at mp 56 on the Ft Wayne Line (across the tracks from the top picture), August 4, 2007. Unlike Virginia, Ohio has had a lot more rain in 2007, as 20V passes a really nice soybean field.

NS 9858 leads 227 past the Boyce, VA, station bay window, July 14, 2007.

NS 9915 leads 227 northbound on the H-line south of Berryville, VA, after a light snow, February 7, 2007.

While ex-CR units may be seen throughout the system, a solid blue set is relatively rare. PRR 8330 leads two other units southbound at Cedarville, VA, on the H-line, January 31, 2005.

When NS replaced a bridge on the Ft Wayne Line near Beaver Falls, PA, a number of trains had to be rerouted. PRR 8406 leads 261 northbound on the Youngstown Line through Lowellville, OH, August 6, 2007.

In early 2007, an ABBA set of Fs was rebuilt by Altoona shops for use on NS office car specials. Before 4271, the second A-unit was complete, the set ran as an ABB set, which we may never see again. NS 951 is westbound at Thompsontown, PA, on the Pittsburgh Line, May 23, 2007.

By June, 4271 was complete, and 951 would run normally as an ABA set, seen here led by 4270 westbound at Fostoria, PA, June 27, 2007.

By 2208, on "heavy" OCS trains, all four F units were used. Deadhead 955 is westbound at Thompsontown, PA.

A rare beast in Northern Virginia is a UP 90/43 MAC, shown leading NS 11R out of the siding at Ashby, VA, on the H-line.

BNSF 9459 leads NS 211 southbound on the H-line at Cedarville, VA. Installation of the new passing siding has really opened up the area both north and south of Rockland Road for photography.

NS 9058 leads NS 211 eastbound at the new Woods interlocking on the B-line. During 2008, the Allison and Woods sidings were lengthened and the B-line was finally given signals to end it's "dark" history.
