Summer Eyes Online continues to promise to deliver the following: 1) a cheap substitute for holiday cards; 2) a lofty tradition of impersonal, self-laudatory, and infrequent correspondence; 3) a pun on the word"summarize," 4) a guarantee that this newsletter will not be sent before Christmas so that it can also serve as a single mailing of holiday cheer as well as serving as an inexpensive thank you card to gift givers (and to serve as a gentle reminder to those who fail to realize that it is better to give than receive [see featured article]), and 5) a method of avoiding printing, copying, paper and postage costs. A newsletter from David Corbin, Josie Metal-Corbin and Quinn Corbin

Travels Go Far, Not Wide

Josie Metal-Corbin and David & Quinn Corbin went to New York City in March to see plays and visit friends. Quinn and David were sick part of the trip but they still managed to average a play a day, which is fun to say. Try it--a play a day is fun to say. "The play's the thing."

David went to Washington, DC for American Public Health Association committee meetings, then to DC again for the American Association of University Professors in his role as University of Nebraska at Omaha's (UNO) chapter president this year. Quinn went to London, through a Louisiana State University program, to study theatre and literature. She saw about twenty plays, several allegedly written by a dude named Shakespeare. Quinn is now a junior in theatre, minoring in Spanish at UNO. Ser o no ser, ese es la pregunta. David and Josie realized that it truly does take a Hamlet to raise a child.

Josie and David unexpectedly got to visit Quinn in London since British Airways went on strike on the same day that they were flying to Italy via London for their 25th wedding anniversary. They spent three days in London with Quinn at British Airways' expense, before resuming their planned trip to Lake Como in Italy. In Milan, Josie and David saw "The Last Supper" at the height of the DaVinci Code popularity. The walrus is Paul. Fortunately, they were not suckered into seeing a knockoff next door called "The Next to the Last Supper." Italy is beautiful--bellezza. As Tobias Jones said of Italy: " . . . Italy, quite apart from simply being beautiful, is . . .a form of fancy dress: an opportunity to seduce or sedate observers. . . . Italy (is) a country . . . 'peerless in the art of illusionism.'" Bisogna far buon viso a cattivo gioco.

Otherwise, it has been the year of the family. Josie and Quinn made several trips to Pittsburgh to see Grandma Metal, Aunt Char and Uncle Ted. David and Quinn went to San Juan, Puerto Rico to see the Corbin family and to spend time at the beach. Josie and David visited the New Mexico Corbin family in the fall and in December David, Josie and Quinn visited the Arizona Corbin family. All new family members had a chance to meet except for the most recently born--Ezra, son of Samantha.

From top to bottom: David and Josie at Lake Como, Quinn overlooking London from the London "Eye", Puerto Rico family, and Arizona family. Can you find Waldo's brother?

For those of you who are conversant with popular language Pig Latin, here is a challenge. Pig Latinize the following: "The personal effects of Uday and Qusay are being auctioned on eBay."

The Clothes Have No Emperor

David is working on a children's book about a king who wears beautiful clothes but tries to convince everyone that he is naked. His follow-up book will be called Pan Peter. This is the story of an old man who wishes that he had never been young. This book encourages people not to tinker with their bells. Corbin's first venture into adult fiction will be entitled Far from the Mad Cow.

Here is an excerpt from David Corbin's diary: "Dear Diary, today I wrote in you. Hope to do so again tomorrow." Corbin's New Year's resolution is not to make any resolutions.

Metal-Corbin Wins Two Awards

Josie Metal-Corbin was recently informed that she was awarded the Nebraska Dance Educator of the Year in Higher Education and then was selected to represent in the nine state Central District. She now goes forward as a nominee from central district for the national award. She is now one of six nominees from the regional districts of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. She will be formally interviewed in New Orleans in April as part of the deliberations for the National Dance Association award. There is no report of an evening gown competition, but if there is one, Josie will grow her own fiber, spin it and then make her own gown.
