After attending the OnAIR Adobe Bus Tour event in LA, I decided to
build and enter an application into the Adobe AIR Developer Derby. My entry
is an AIR application that browses and retrieves book files from the
Project Gutenberg Library. The bookfiles can
be text, HTML, or Audio. Here are some feature highlights:
Uses a clientside SQL database to search a copy of the Gutenberg catalog.
Can be run connected or disconnected from the Internet and manages connected or disconnected state of computer by adjusting catalog offerings.
Caches previously viewed text and HTML books for offline browsing.
Plays audio books from the collection.
Automatically downloads "todays books" list and adds them to the catalog.
Preferences that control caching policy.
Text book searching.
Download installer for NetBook:
Download adobe AIR file (if you have the AIR runtime already): Link.
Feel Free to email me bug reports/suggestions. I spent quite a bit of time on this but I know there are a lot more features that would be cool to add.
NOTE!: If you download the NetBook Air file and it appears as a .zip, rename it to a .air file (the cox webserver has the MIME type messed up in its configurations).
