Green River Lakes is a beautiful place, off the beaten path, It finds its way onto calendars, but relatively few people visit in person. The lakes lie in the Wind River Range, the backbone of the Rockies in west central Wyoming. The granitic Wind Rivers contain not only the highest point in Wyoming, Gannett Peak, but also the nation's 7 largest glaciers outside Alaska.

The scenery is outstanding. We hiked to Upper Green River Lake and were treated to this view.
On the way back, we were treated to a windstorm that had us hiking looking up, rather than straight ahead or at the ground. Trees and limbs were crashing down around us. The weather cleared up again the next day. The view from Lower Green River Lake outlet is outstanding

We hiked a rather vertical 1400 feet down to Long Lake above Fremont Lake the next day. We were in the vicinity after making an 80-mile round trip ice and beer run to Pinedale.
I did some beeping at the old Gros Ventre lodge and found some old blackpowder shells and a nice 1900 Indian Head penny.

After 4 days in the Wind Rivers, we continued to the next stop on our journey: Grand Teton NP
