Año 2000 was a good year at the campo. The thieves were gone and things calmed down. Brian and the Smiths spent a good bit of time down there, so the places were a little more secure. We supported the Mexican Customs Service on Memorial Day.
Fishing was pretty good, although the surface fish were absent at Christmas. The feeding frenzy in April will go down in the annals of Baja. We had plenty of fish tacos. Donna caught our first keeper Halibut. We got our first substantial catches of Pargo. The Corvina were around occasionally. Small Grouper were plentiful south of Punta Bufeo.
The weather was weird, to say the least. Over Memorial Day, the offshore Devil's Wind kept it at a toasty 95° all night long. On the October trip, thunderstorms drenched everywhere except where we were. December was cold and nippy (colder and nippier than usual).
Cathy got another trailer. It almost cratered on the way down, but finally made it, albeit a bit shook-up. Luis dug us an outhouse pit. We had lots of visitors. The road got fixed, finally. We went down to the campo four times. Click on a link below to read about one of our trips in detail.
