Baja 1991

1991 was the start of the springtime trips to Baja. Only three dwellings were present at Campo Loncho: Roger's house, Sweet's place, which Eddie and I helped build over Christmas 1990, and Loncho's shack. Richard's slab was poured in April. Bruce obtained his place that Memorial Day, when I was back in Ohio.

This page is being written in 1999. Things sure have changed since 1991. Sweet's place burned down in `93 or `94. Roger had a stroke and is now debilitated. Richard got transferred up to Sacramento and abandoned his place. It's still abandoned to this day. We all got more gray hair and a few extra pounds to boot. Even Bud was skinny back then! The only thing that hasn't changed is the beauty of the place. In fact, 1991 may have been the most beautiful year to date. It rained over Christmas and kept raining that spring. The rain made for a bumper crop of rodents the next Memorial Day. It also made for better flowers than have been seen to date. The desert looks green in these pictures. The photos posted here are broken down into subjects, since the trip logs are old, and the memories are too. Here's Baja back in the good ol' days.
