Baja Scenery 1991

The winter of 1990 produced a decent amount of rainfall in the Baja. The spring flowers were average during our trip of April 1991. However, the fall and early winter of 1991 were particularly wet. This wetness carried over to spring 1992. Here's some clouds hanging low over Cerro La Alguatosa, el. 4,462', in the Sierra la Asamblea to the west.

A rainbow appeared over the Sierra.

During this storm, the sunrays peaked out of a break in the clouds over the Sierra.

Often times, the weather blew across the mountains and it rained on our coastal plain. Here's a rainbow to the south of our campos.

Here, the clouds blew across the water and made a pretty scene over Isla San Luis.

We camped out, so we were always up before dawn. We became used to beautiful sunrises. This one appeared during the April trip. The sun just peeked over the water while a flock of birds cruised by.

In this one, the winter sun creates an aura over Punta Bufeo, while clouds drift above.

Here's another interesting winter sunrise over the Point.

Flowers and Plants

Since it was a wet year, the growth was the best I've seen to date. It deserves a special subsection just for the greenings, so here it is. The Brittlebush was flowering.

This yellow flower was blooming in the wash south of Gene & Mary Kay's trailer.

This bush was in the same wash.

As was this bush.

A Desert Daisy also was in bloom.

As was this Verbena.

The way we went out in those days was to take the old road all the way up to the 30 mile mark south of Puertecitos. This route took you through a large wash that had an Elephant Tree "forest". It was pretty cool...still is I guess, but our route doesn't pass by there any more.

The Old Look

The look of Baja sure has changed in the last 8 years. Roger's house had been there for a few years, but Sweet's place was just built over Christmas 1990. Here's a shot of Loncho's and the future Campo Deano y Catalina from the soon-to-be Campo Bruce.

This is Sweet's place. Before it burned to the ground...obviously.

And here's Roger's, from west of Loncho's.

Back in those days, we fileted fish on the beach sitting in chairs. This was even worse on the back than the way we do it now...aboard the boats.

Although this image probably doesn't belong here, it's here anyway. Bruce needed a tow back from Isla Lobos. Sweet and Freda obliged.

That's it for 1991 Scenery. Go on over to the Baja 1991 Wildlife, or return to:
