Saturday dawned and the winds were calm. Although the swell persisted, we headed out toward the island. The absence of bait and feeding birds was conspicuous. We tried to find some surface feeders, but predictably, they were absent. We trolled around the pinnacles off Punta Los Añegados. South of the point is a seabird rookery. The Double-crested Cormorants and Brown Pelicans were sitting on their nests. In this shot, you can see the little white baby pelican puffballs. The panoramic view of the whole rookery is sort of interesting, but it didn't compress well and is a very large file. I didn't post its thumbnail. Click on the picture below for a Javascript popup of the rookery panorama.
Out on the far side of Punta Piedra Volcanica, the swells were running around 4'. We weren't catching anything, so we revved up the motors and ran back to camp to catch a few more bass and triggers. They were obliging, of course. Mike caught a juvenile White Seabass and held it up for the camera.

Marwan showed off his bass.
And
Pandro showed off a member of the FFTA...the Future Fish Tacos
of America, or Mexico as the case may be.

I caught a fish of a different color. This one was big enough to put in the bag, even with the poison spines.

I cut the spines off and filleted him up. They're outstanding eating.
