“Well, Brooksley, I guess you and I will never agree about fraud,” Born, in a recent interview, remembers Greenspan saying. “What is there not to agree on?” Born says she replied. “Well, you probably will always believe there should be laws against fraud, and I don't think there is any need for a law against fraud,” she recalls. Greenspan, Born says, believed the market would take care of itself. For the incoming regulator, the meeting was a wake-up call. “That underscored to me how absolutist Alan was in his opposition to any regulation,” she said in the interview.

Philosophy & Politics I used to think Philosophy was just people endlessly wondering if reality really existed, or if things continue to exist when you're not looking at them. But now I realize Philosophy is extremely important because Philosophy determines what sort of government people will adopt. Philosophy determines Government. In order to understand Politics and the deep division between Progressives and Conservatives we need to first study not what people think, but how people think. Once we understand how people go about understanding and reasoning about things, then we'll be able to understand the thought process of people who think differently from us. Our biggest mistake is believing in the "Political Spectrum" metaphor:

OMINOUS PREDICTION: “The Republicans will resume
control in 2012. Republican control of the U.S. government will become
permanent this time, and their secretly held contempt for democracy will
become nakedly apparent, as the United States becomes a one-party state in
all but name. U.S. moral authority and influence will be at an end. The
American experiement in democracy will be over.”

Q: Why is this page so plain?A: See all the text? It's called content. This web site has been optimized for speed of loading for slow dial-up modems. Thus there is no fancy stuff that would take a long time to load. Plus I like it this way. But for those of you who still want to see the greatest most complex gaudiest graphical page I shall make one just for you and place it here. |
