Deley's Web Site

Site Map

The site is split between three servers because it all wouldn't fit on one. Downloading the following three index files with any web site downloader program (and all local files they link to, which the program should do automatically) will get you everything. A FREE (though not easy to use) Web Site Downloader program is HTTrack Website Copier.
  1. http://members.cox.net/deleyd/index.htm Deley's Home Page (Main Page)
  2. http://members.cox.net/deleyd2/index.htm More of Deley's website
  3. http://members.cox.net/srice1/index.htm More of Deley's website

The breakdown is as follows:
  1. http://members.cox.net/deleyd/index.htm Deley's Home Page (Main Page)
  2. http://members.cox.net/deleyd2/index.htm
  3. http://members.cox.net/srice1/index.htm
[Note some extentions are *.htm and some are *.html   I should have stayed with *.htm throughout to be consistent but started using *.html for awhile. Then I noticed some servers will find index.htm if a URL with no specific file is specified, but won't find index.html, so I switched back to using *.htm. Then I learned that other servers are the opposite, insisting on index.html instead of index.htm, so now I keep both and I have a mess. Oh well, c'est la vie.]

Verizon bought GTE some years ago, so now my old website http://home1.gte.net/deleyd/ equates to http://members.verizon.net/deleyd/. Both URLs work and give you the same page.

Verizon is a flakey poor unreliable ISP (Internet Service Provider). Somtimes when attempting to access a page on my Verizon website it returns HTTP code 423 Locked. Verizon refuses to acknowledge there's a problem. Just try again in a few minutes.

Also, an attempt to access the "robots.txt" file at http://members.verizon.net/robots.txt or http://home1.gte.net/robots.txt always fails with HTTP code 423 Locked, so certain web crawlers like Alexa which conform to W3C standards are unable to crawl the site. Again Verizon refuses to acknowledge there's a problem. The hightest technical person at Verizon I was allowed to talk to, after several days of escalating the issue, didn't even know what a "robots.txt" file was. She also didn't know what ASCII was or how to pronounce it.

For this reason I am migrating to the COX server which doesn't have these problems. My new homepage is now at http://members.cox.net/deleyd/index.htm, though some parts still exist on the Verizon server.

I have gotten many emails from other Verizon ISP users who are having the same problem with "423 Locked" error messages. They say they also have had no success talking with Verizon technical support about this issue. I suggest dumping Verizon and going with a better company, as Verizon is never going to fix their problem.
(January, 2006. It appears Verizon has finally fixed the robots.txt file problem. Now an attempt to access it results in HTTP code 404 "file not found" which is quite acceptable. Only took them several years to fix the problem.)

More about robots.txt files can be found at http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/appendix/notes.html#h-B.4.1.1

September, 2005.I also recently discovered that my Verizon webspace treats audio *.wma files as text files. So if I upload one and then link to it all you get is a page full of binary, rather than having the audio file play in your audio player. I don't have this problem with cox.net . Once again, Verizon sucks.

December, 2005.It has recently come to my attention that I am not receiving all my email sent to my Verizon account. Companies send me email, I never receive it. Spam blocker is off. Once again, Verizon sucks!

February, 2006. Migrated everything to COX. I advise people to avoid Verizon as an Internet Service Provider.
