Bush presidency purely bush league
After all is said and done, this Bush presidency has been a calamity. Taking office
under a cloud of illegitimacy, Bush led the country from prosperity to recession. His
poor leadership allowed the worst attack on America, followed by the worst domestic
economic collapse, Enron.
allowed full-scale war to break out and terror to reign in the Mideast. Hopes for
peace among Israelis and palestinians alike have been set back 50 years, and
our status as international leader has suffered.
Bush's retaliation against the Taliban seemed successful, but what is its long-range
purpose? To restore opium cultivation in Afghanistan, to build another pipeline?
Americans sit in an undefined state of global war. Are we waiting for the next terror attack,
so Bush can play hero again? He's paved the way for this by provoking our enemies worldwide
and discouraging our allies.
Meanwhile, real world problems of global warming, species extinction, overpopulation,
resource depletion and pollution go unaddressed.
What now? Are we going to follow the best vision and direction Bush can offer us, to
attack Iraq? Or are we going to try to turn things around the only way we can, by uniting
against the Bush party as Democrats, not splinter parties, in the next election?
