Do You Know What is Special
About Desert Hot Springs??

About a dozen miles north of Palm Springs, at the foot of the Little San Bernardino Mountains lies Desert Hot Springs, a small community that lies at over 1,000 feet elevation, well above the other cities in the valley.  Yet Desert Hot Springs has something most of its neighbors don't -- natural, odorless mineral springs that bubble under four square miles of the city. (Palm Springs, as its names indicates, also has a natural mineral spring, but it's on a small parcel of land owned by the Cahuilla Indians, the area's original inhabitants, and is not as accessible or abundant as the springs up the hill.) The town's other advantage over its neighbors is its elevation. Panoramic views of the San Gorgonio Mountain and Mount San Jacinto, snow-capped even in late spring, and the Coachella Valley follow you wherever you go.
This community is surrounded by natural desert beauty and a wealth of Coachella Valley attractions, including championship golf, tennis, cycling, ballooning, horseback riding, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, world class shopping and dining, art galleries, museums, and live theater. There are also several casinos within a very short driving distance to those who favor fast pace gambling excitement.

With warm, sunny, clear and dry days, winter visitors find the area most attractive. There are more than 330 days of sunshine per year. The summer months are warm, but comfortable due to the low humidity and elevation above the rest of the valley. Set a course for the City of Desert Hot Springs, California, and see why it's “Clearly Above the Rest”.

Why  the Name Desert Hot Springs?

This small community of 22,000 residents was named after the hot mineral water springs observed in 1913 by its founder, Cabot Yerxa.  His discovery has brought fame and fortune to the city over the years as thousands of visitors have come to take advantage of the 40 spas which some believe have restorative powers.  For more information about how you can experience these minerals waters firsthand, CLICK HERE.  In addition, The town's tap water has won five medals over the years at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting competition in West Virginia, a fact which can provide the ultimate Zen experience!

Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree National Park has over 585,000 acres of wilderness, offering visitors opportunities to explore where few others have ventured. Joshua Tree is crisscrossed with hundreds of faults, and is a great place to see raw rocks and the effects of earthquakes. The famous San Andreas Fault bounds the south side of the park, and can be observed from Keys View.

Viewed from the road, this desert park only hints at its vitality. Closer examination reveals a fascinating variety of plants and animals that make their home in this land shaped by strong winds, unpredictable torrents of rain, and climatic extremes. Dark night skies, a rich cultural history, and surreal geologic features add to the attraction of this place.  Wildflower season usually begins with the large, cream-colored blooms of the Joshua trees in late February, followed by colorful annuals at the lower elevations around the south boundary of the park. Sometime in March, the bloom will follow rising temperatures into the higher elevations of the park. Cacti usually wait until April or May to produce their bright, waxy flowers.
Spring is an excellent season for birding in Joshua Tree. In addition to year-round residents, spring brings an influx of transients and summer nesting species. A birding check-list is available at visitor centers.
Days are typically clear with less than 25 percent humidity. Temperatures are most comfortable in the spring and fall, with an average high/low of 85 and 50°F (29 and 10°C) respectively. Winter brings cooler days, around 60°F (15°C), and freezing nights. It occasionally snows at higher elevations. Summers are hot, over 100°F (38°C) during the day and not cooling much below 85°F (29°C) until the early hours of the morning.
