Welcome to Desert Star Kennels, home of Dakota, our prize dam, the AKC Champion brown wavy-aired Portuguese Water Dog. Dakota is mom to all of ourpups. She has passed her loving and playful ways on to every puppy bred and raised at Desert Star Kennels.

I want you to meet and enjoy each one of our extended PWD family and friends.  Dakota lives with her half-sister Nikita, the alpha black wavy, and until recently Koko, our first born brown wavy.  Each have their own
distinct quirks and personalities.  Dakota has bred with Uno, Ch. Hunter's the One for Deerpark, three times now.  Their (re)production team has produced twelve gorgeous pups on 9/10/01, known affectionately as the Dirty Dozen.  And on 10/10/02 they had nine more precious pups, nicknamed the DSK-9s (with a nod to Star Trek's DS9).  Dakota even has a Star Trek nickname of her own--Dax.  One of her sisters is '3 of 13'! 
Finally on 11/14/03 they created another dozen for us, this time the Dirty Dozen: Reloaded.  I guess Dakota never heard that 8 is the average litter size for a PWD.

I hope that you enjoy our history lessons, our photo albums, our anecdotes, and our favorite links.  Portuguese Water Dogs are a unique and wonderful breed of dog.  But they definitely are not for everyone nor should they be.
Such an intelligent breed also easily gets bored and looks for fun things to do, many of which their human parents may not appreciate.  They are also seemingly tireless and full of exuberant energy, often much more than their
human companions have.  It¹s really a good thing at times that they are so cute and gorgeous.  It must be a survival trait of theirs...
