Along with the mass destruction of Hurricane Katrina, it took with it many of New Orleans's street signs. In the ever animated manner and adaptive nature of the citizens of this unique city, they fashioned their own handmade signs. I have created this collage as a representation of the signs that can still be seen all over the city today, it is a continuing reminder of the resiliency and artistic soul of New Orleanians. I wanted to capture the essence of this expression, as it is a thin slice of history, that is temporary; because the progress of rebuilding will require these signs to be replaced.
