In 1965 when I
was a junior in college my Dad bought me a new VW Beetle. It was
my first car and although it had mechanical problems and probably
wasn’t the safest car on the road it was still great fun to
drive. Over the years I progressed to today’s dependable Hondas
& Toyotas. I missed the fun of driving, and recently decided
to try to recapture the experience. After considerable research I
ended up getting a 2006 New Beetle TDI (Turbocharged Direct Injection)
diesel with a six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox. My new car is
similar only in looks to my ’65. It’s one of the safest cars on
the road, and while not a speed demon, it’s plenty peppy and has all
the amenities (power stuff, leather, etc.) of today’s nice cars.
More importantly, it’s really fun to drive! Below are some
pictures and links
for those interested.
