Levels (layers)

Level 1     Level 2     Level 3     Level 4     Top level

Disclaimer: I apologize for the poor quality of the photos. I was more intent on construction, not photography, not to mention the disruption of getting the flux off my hands in order to take pictures, and dead batteries in the camera and dead spare batteries...

Level 1

Level 1 is the base layer upon which all other layers are built. There is very little color in level 1 for this design. The area under the window shade is clear/white wispy, the other window glass is sandblasted clear float, the wall is light gray English Muffle, and the top of the table is clear woodgrain. Only the vase, foliage, window mullions, and table front have any color.

Level 2

Level 2 incorporates more obscuring glass for the window. The window shade is clear float with details painted on the back side (you can also use narrow strips of black-backed foil for the twigs and branches) and clear/white wispy for the window glass. The same clear woodgrain used on level 1 for the table top is used on level 2 for the front of the table. The colored walls and table top are in place, as is the clear textured glass for the leaves and the clear and shadow glass for the vase.

The leaves don’t show through the shade. It’s possible that they would if I hadn’t used the clear/white wispy in the first layer.

Level 3

Level 3 includes the background scenery, which has been tinned, edge-beaded, and patinaed. It also includes the shadows on the table and wall. You can see the strip of clear glass between the branches in the two upper window panes. This provided a place for the two branches in the upper right pane to be soldered, and enabled me to treate the upper tree parts as a single unit.

The apparent stripes in the top center branches are artifacts of the photograph; the glass is the same brown as the rest of the tree.

Level 4

Level 4 is the sky blue waterglass that is used to seal the window pane cells and give color to the sky.It has been tinned and the top edges patinaed since they may should through the several layers of clear in upper levels.

Top level

The top level is soldered to the front of level 1 after all the levels have been soldered to the back. I should have used 7/32” foil on this piece.
