Brian's Hiking Page

I used to do alot of hiking and backpacking. I first started backpacking when I was in the Boy Scouts in the Pacific Northwest. When I moved to Arizona, I became involved in hiking and backpacking around the state and was president of the hiking club at my high school (go Sabino Sabercats). I graduated high school in 1980 and attended the University of Arizona in the College of Agriculture.  My major was Forestry.
The picture to the left is from Paria Canyon which is on the border of Arizona and Utah. Its one of those canyons that is 500-1000 feet deep and in some places only 5 feet wide. During my 20 mile trip, there were only 2 places where I would be able to climb out in the event of a flash flood. Fortunately the weather was clear the entire trip and I had checked the weather forecast prior to the trip anyway.
The picture to the right is of an ancient indian cliff dwelling that we discovered on one of our trips in the Superstition Mountains. There are several cliff dwellings there but to get to this one we had to bushwack several miles off-trail and it appears to not have been visited for several decades if not longer, as there was no vandalism and I could see several pieces of pottery laying around. I sat here for several hours and looked down into the canyon and thought of how it must have been like to live here several hundred years ago...wow
