The Marvel Tarot

Unlike the DC Tarot, where I reinterpreted not only the imagery of the tarot but also it's internal logic, the Marvel tarot is no more than a correlation between characters and the cards of a "standard" deck. Perhaps it is the two decades that Marvel lacks that keeps it from becoming modern mythology as DC has. Maybe it is the Marvel paradigm, having it's characters worry more about the rest than saving the universe, that makes Jungian Archetypes seem inappropriate. Or maybe it is Marvel's willingness, even as it tells mundane tales, to explore their character's more mystical qualities that makes it unneccessary to reinterpret them into occult imagery, unlike the more scientific heroes of DC.

Or maybe I am creatively bankrupt, though I prefer to think I am just lazy. Regardless of the reason, here is a list of the cards and their corresponding Marvel character. While it might be interesting to see the the characters reinterpreted into actual tarot cards as they are in the MARVEL TEAM-UP pictured above, or in the DC Tarot, I have not done so. Again, with this deck the important thing is not to mythify the characters, but rather to demystify the tarot. The characters and images chosen will be very familiar to Marvel fans, and they will then be able to create their own, personal - and presumably more modern - interpretations of the tarot deck.
