The Pack is one of the GM's most successful Horrors, functioning equally well in nearly every Ecology of Fear, because it plays to the most basic fear of all, Fight or Flight. It is also one of the most adaptable, taking the shape of local predators to better inspire fear - shadowy wolves in Orrorsh, a horde of Goblins in Aylse, a gang of Urban youths in Core Earth, or even a group of homeless beggars in Nippon Tech. (For whatever reason, The Pack has yet to be spotted in the Papacy. The Pack itself enjoys the Living Land, but is rarely able to evoke a fear of being hunted in it's inhabitants. And like most Horrors, The Pack has yet to comprehend the nature of Nile reality, though there are rumors of preternaturally skilled cadres of Shocktroopers...)
While one of the most primative of Horrors, and possessing at best animal cunning, The Pack is also the Horror to best understand the nature of the Power of Fear. It is quite content to stalk it's prey for weeks, or even months, as only a startled glimmer out of the corner of their eye. When the victim begins to accept it's presence it will suddenly change it's tactics, either slowly creeping ever closer, or forcing a sudden close confrontation only to back away again. The Pack seems to instinctually understand the nature of it's prey, and will always take those actions most likely to cause fear in it's intended victim. The Pack will use physical violence only as a last resort, and usually then only a quick scuffle in passing, to further disorient the object of the hunt. (In fact, like many bullies, The Pack can often be driven off by those capable of standing up and fighting back.) The similarities between The Pack and the Wild Hunt, and Ultherion's Orrorshan origins have led some to believe that the two may be realated in some way. The recent discovery of a Core Earth Eternity Shard, purportedly of Ayslish origin, with the ability to summon and apparently even control the Hunt has put this theory to some doubt.
(Note: While The Pack usually appears as a group of creatures - usually 3 to 5 per victim - it is in fact a single creature, possessed of a single, if limited, mind. The Pack's slightly higher DEX is not due to actual speed, but the ability to coordinate attacks from many sources. Likewise, it's high TOU is due to the fact that individual damage is spread amongst more than one body. Individual "members" of The Pack may appear slow and easy to kill, but The Pack as a whole is always close, it's numbers never decreasing...)
